Special Education Secretary

Full Time, Year Round Position

QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Two to three years of experience as an Administrative Assistant preferred

  • Knowledge of Google Suite and Microsoft Office essential

  • Knowledge of other Student Information Management System (SIMS) preferred

  • Knowledge of ESPED/Frontline or other IEP software preferred

  • Previous experience working within a school system is preferred

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Administrative support to the Special Education Director and all department staff

  • Create and maintain special education records for both current and referred students

  • Create and maintain student evaluation lists/consents to ensure timelines are met

  • Work with team chairs to schedule initial, reevaluation, annual and transition meetings

  • Work with staff to ensure that timelines are met for the completion of evaluation reports

  • Prepare letters to meet legal obligations to Bureau of Special Education Appeals (BSEA) and other agencies as appropriate

  • Provide District support for ESPED which includes: update, maintain, and annual rollover

  • Act as Medicaid liaison for the special education department

  • Maintain special education SIMS data codes for state reporting purposes

  • Send Age of Majority letters to students and parents

  • Create and maintains all student folders

  • Maintain paper and computerized special education records for student in or exited out of special education

  • Assist with the organization, parent communication, and transportation for Special Education, 

   Foster Care, Homeless and Summer programming

  • Assist with implementation of yearly Pre-K screening (child find)

  • Answer the phone as first point of parent communication and refer to appropriate personnel

  • Perform all other duties as deemed necessary and assigned by the Special Education Director 

  • Scheduling substitutes for the district Paraprofessionals
